Screen Shot 2019-07-19 at 11.44.43 AM Greetings from our fair city – Charleston, SC! While today in Charleston is a bit overcast and cool, we are looking forward to “70 degrees and Sunny ” just in time for the 33rd, Lowcountry Oyster Festival at Boone Hall Plantation, Sunday January 31st 2016. The Lowcountry Oyster Festival is the world’s largest oyster festival (How does 80,000 pounds of oysters sound?) This is considered a “must attend ” event for oyster-loving Charlestonians, who often come sporting their own monogrammed shucking knife!

The Lowcountry Oyster Festival is a “RAIN OR SHINE EVENT, ” proving the Charleston community’s unwavering love for Oysters, food, and partying!!  Named one of the “Top 20 Events in the Southeast” by the Southeastern Tourism Society, the day includes oyster eating contests, oyster shucking contests, live music, beer, wine and a “food court, ” showcasing a variety of local restaurants.

And with that, Charleston Festival season begins in full swing …

In February Charleston plays host to the annual Southeastern Wildlife Expo which kicks off on Friday, February 12th-14th, 2016. The Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) is a three-day celebration of wildlife and nature through fine art, conservation education, sporting demonstrations, food, drink and the people who honor them all. The largest event of its kind in the US, SEWE plays host to hundreds of artists and exhibitors, plus experts in wildlife and popular events like “Dock Dog ” competitions and Retriever demos, fly fishing and casting demos. SEWE’s impact on Charleston and the state continues to grow, as does its popularity. It is a celebration of the south’s love for the outdoor, sporting lifestyle and our collective love for wildlife, nature and our role in enjoying them for generations. Every true southerner knows a good hunting dog can be the stuff the dreams are made of.

The great politician, Thomas Jefferson, said that “good wine is a necessity of life for me. ” I agree but he should have said “Good wine and good dogs are a necessity of life for me. “ Jim Harrison, Field & Stream

Being a former chef and caterer, March brings one of MY favorites festivals, Charleston Wine + Food Festival! This year it will be held March 2nd-6th, 2016. Held throughout the city at various restaurants venues and parks, the main “hub ” is at Marion Square in downtown. Since 2006, Charleston Wine + Food is a celebration of Charleston’s culinary excellence and renowned culture. Charleston Wine + Food is a non-profit organization that benefits the next generation of culinary + hospitality talent through local scholarship programs. The community behind Charleston Wine + Food are diverse and passionate about great food, amazing wines, beer and cocktails. And of course, the city itself!! This is certainly Charleston’s finest hour, showcasing the best we have to offer from Chefs, farmers, artisans, and beverage professionals. Certainly, that’s not a biased opinion – is it?

And so, as my Italian Grandparents would say, “Mangia bene!! “
