When I am not selling real estate or working on a real estate renovation I can be found purchasing antiques, or rummaging through thrift stores and consignment shops looking for another project or the perfect home accessory. I just like the hunt, that is part of the fun, and you never know what you may find. Plus it is always good to restore and repurpose items. If you have an open mind and an imagination an item once used for something can always be used for something else.

There is no way to list all the places you might find me digging for treasure but I will share a few of my favorites for finding some interesting antiques in Charleston.

Consign Charleston – Located at 1610 Sam Rittenburg Blvd West Ashley. When I am looking for furniture or home accessories this is always a top stop for me. I try to stop in once a week as the inventory is ever changing. I have snagged several wonderful items at Consign Charleston.

Habitat for Humanity -731 Meeting Street Charleston. This is a great place to find furniture. I have often picked up tables that can be painted or refinished. Prices are great and benefits a good cause. Another place to pop in on a regular basis. You never know what surprises you will find. If you are working on a renovation this is the place to score some renovation basics. Doors, hardware, tile, and cabinets can always be found. Some of my favorite things are slavaged architectural pieces as they can be used as art, turned in to tables, etc.

Architectural Antiques and Design – 1011 A Saint Andrews Blvd West Ashley – Do not let the outside appearance of this gem fool you. Once you enter this place is huge. Room after room of great finds. From antique gates and iron work to well worn doors and furniture. Re-purpose is the heart of what they do. And the garden area is wonderful. The experience is always a treat and the owner is so much fun to talk with. I always leave here with a find!

Workshop – 609 King Street – Owned by talented design partners John-Paul Huguley and John Palmer, If you want an architectural piece this is the place. And this is a true shopping experience. You may find something you can take with you. Or maybe you want the piece made into a table. Or you may see a door you love and it is too large. Well, Workshop will have a door custom made for you just like it. And the owners are a wealth of information.

So whether you are planning a renovation of your historic Charleston home or just want to add some old world charm to any room, you can count on finding that unique one of a kind item at one of these great local favorites.  And, while you’re out & about, check out some of my favorite places to catch a bite to eat.
